*Travel accommodations will not exceed $2,500 US dollars. Travel must take place during the duration of exhibition (January 15 – March 19, 2010).


International Juried Show
The 24th Annual International Juried Show is being presented at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey,
January 15 to March 19, 2010. This critically acclaimed show is open to artists with eligible work in all media from
the United States and around the globe. A distinguished member of the arts community is chosen as juror each year.
Susan Kismaric, Curator, Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art will serve as this year’s juror.
Eligible Work
The exhibition is open to artists in all media from across
the country and abroad. Each artist may enter NO
MORE than two recent pieces for consideration. One CD
containing BOTH images or one 35mm slide for EACH
work must be submitted.
Option 1- Slides
Each 35mm slide must be labeled with NAME OF
ARTIST and TITLE and marked Slide #1 and Slide #2.
Please TYPE or PRINT CLEARLY. Please indicate the
top of the slide. All slides must fit in a standard slide
carousel (2” x 2”). NO SLIDES WILL BE RETURNED.
All slides become property of the Art Center.
DO NOT send a SASE.
Option 2- Digital Images
Images cannot be larger than 900 pixels in any one
direction or orientation. Images must be in JPEG format
at 72 dpi. Images must be titled in the following format:
Please write your name, address, and phone number
on the CD. Use one standard CD for both entries (no
DVD’s). Burn the CD for playing on a Mac computer.
NO CDS WILL BE RETURNED. All CDs become
property of the Art Center. No email entries will be
accepted. DO NOT send a SASE.
Entry Rules
Entry fee, including insurance and handling fees is
$35.00 and non-refundable. Make checks payable to
Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. All works entered
must be original creations by the artist and must be
show ready for presentation. Two-dimensional pieces
must be wired for hanging. Maximum size accepted for
two-dimensional work is 72” x 72”. Three-dimensional
works must not exceed 8’ in height, cover more than six
square feet of floor area, or weigh more than 150 lbs.
With our newly renovated galleries, the Visual Arts
Center of New Jersey has become a destination not to
be missed, showcasing excellence in the creation and
presentation of contemporary visual art. The new Main
Gallery, now two stories in height, offers the visitor an
experience that is known only in top museums.
Accepted works cannot be substituted and are
committed for the duration of the exhibit. No artwork
shall be returned after the installation until the final
exhibition date; and the artwork will only be returned to
the original location and lender or his/her authorized
agent on the date(s) stated herein. The Art Center
reserves the right to provide the media with reproductions
of the exhibited artwork from this exhibition.
Jurying Process
Preliminary screening will be made from slides and CDs.
Final selection for exhibition and awards will be made from
actual work of art requested by the juror. Accepted artists
will be notified by telephone. No work requested by the
juror for second jurying will be accepted by mail unless
return postage and insurance is guaranteed.
Juror: Susan Kismaric
Susan Kismaric, Curator in the Department of Photography
at the Museum of Modern Art, first joined the Museum in
1976 as Study Center Supervisor and subsequently worked
as Assistant Curator and Associate Curator. She served as
Acting Director of the Department from 1980 to 1981 while
its former Director was on sabbatical. Ms. Kismaric attended
Pennsylvania State University and worked for five years in
the picture collection at Time & Life Corporation. She has
periodically been a visiting Senior Critic of Photography at
the Yale School of Art since the early 1980s, and most
recently in the winter of 2008. Recent exhibitions that Ms.
Kismaric has organized include: A SHIMMER OF POSSIBILITY.
PHOTOGRAPHS BY PAUL GRAHAM (2009),
PRESENT TENSE. PHOTOGRAPHS BY JOANN
VERBURG (2007), FASHIONING FICTION IN PHOTOGRAPHY
(2004) and PATH OF RESISTANCE (2000). She is
the author of many books and has contributed essays to a
variety of major books published by the Museum.
Awards/Insurance/Sales
Cash awards totaling $1,800 will be presented at the
exhibition’s Opening Reception. Best in Show-$1,000
and round trip travel to Summit, NJ plus lunch with the
Juror; (3) Merit Awards-$200 each; Painting Award-$100;
Photography Award-$100. All works of art will be insured
for declared value while on Art Center premises. Artists
are responsible for insuring their works of art during
transit to and from the Art Center. Artwork not picked up
by 3/23/10 will incur a storage fee of $5 a day,
commencing on 3/24/10. Submission of entry fee will
constitute agreement to the conditions set forth.
